Our Story

In 2012, a group of North Bay law enforcement officers and firefighters were asked by the staff at Snoopy’s Home Ice if they had ever considered playing a grudge match hockey game against each other.  While the idea sounded enticing, we decided that to truly get bragging rights there had to be something on the line in addition to professional pride.

Every year, there is at least one tragic story among our local peers.  So, we decided to create an event that would allow us to play for pride while raising money for those in need. We could help raise funds for someone working or retired from public safety who was put into a financial hardship due to unforeseen circumstances. It was then, that the North Bay Guns and Hoses Hockey Club was established. 

The winner of our charity game takes home the Cagle Cup, an award named after Santa Rosa Fire Captain Steve Cagle who was our first honoree. While the pride is captured on the ice, the real victory occurs when we are able to donate the funds raised to help those in need.  To date, we have helped organize 10 games for children, public safety members, and entire communities.

In October 2017, the North Bay was struck by the devastating Tubbs Fire, which claimed 22 lives and left thousands of homes and businesses ruined. In the weeks that followed, we knew that we wanted to do something to lift the spirits of our community and help the local organizations that were directly impacted by the fire.  After being contacted by the Sharks Alumni Foundation, we had our best event ever, and proudly donated $40,000 to local groups to help the healing process.

The North Bay Guns and Hoses rely 100% on the donations and kindness of others, and this is one of the reasons why board members are not compensated for their work within the organization. In 2021,  the North Bay Guns and Hoses Hockey Club became a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Any and all donations area tax deductible and greatly appreciated. To date, due the generosity of our community we have raised and donated nearly $200,000.00! We hope to continue this mission for many years to come!
